SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH HER RAPIST

HAD TO BRING THIS BACK FROM 2016.

Chioma (not real name) is one of the toughest people I know. She’s successful, principled, opinionated and from a happy home. Sometimes

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

The term and word ‘Happiness’ is relative. It is not something that can be held, touched. It means different things to different people plus different things bring it for different people.
For thousands of years, humans have pursued happiness. They have tied happiness to different things and people.
You hear people say things like;

‘I’ll be happy when I’m successful.’
‘I’ll be very happy when I get married.’

THE LITTLE ROOM

They say pride goes before a fall. It doesn’t necessarily equate a fall. It’s just that we make lots of unnecessary things important. Funny thing is most times it’s only in our heads. It’s our prejudiced perceptions of situations that create pride. We let things cloud our heads and judgement. Let me give examples.

Thomas is well educated and has a PhD. He has no job. Wait, he has gotten job offers but he’s waiting for the right offer. Every other job is beneath him. He can’t do that. What would people even say if they heard besides, his self pride won’t

DE-MOCK-RACEE

I wrote this years ago. Sadly, it is still relevant.

If there was a subject I paid attention to back in my secondary school days, Government would be it. In fact, it was the only course I paid attention to. It always intrigued me and it still does. I tried understanding the terms, how different forms of government came to be and every gritty nitty detail about them. I used to love reading about the American Revolution, how their constitution was formed.Ancient Greece's history was my bedtime story. Even then, my favourite Nigerian political stories were about the fight for independence. How each person contributed. Yes I went past the government textbooks, (I had lots of them). I read about their personal ambitions, vendettas in the fight for independence. The clamours for independence regionally (why isn’t Nigeria a confederacy if I may ask?). I think a lot that I often get carried away. Back to the right train of thought. Today is

THE LOST TALENT

Right from when he was a kid, Yemi knew he wanted to dance. Dance was his life. There was no dance move he couldn’t do. He told his parents as a kid, they laughed that he was just a kid. When he was filling his JAMB form, he wanted Theatre Arts but his father reminded him that je was a Doctor and his father was one too. James filled in medicine. He became a doctor, a good one at that but there was something missing. Dance was gone, so was the light in his eyes.
All Daniel could see was colours. He could create something out of nothing. He had the touch. Best in art class. He could see shapes and sizes that others couldn’t see. He got

THE RULES

There are rules that have been passed down for as long as society has been in existence. They have been tried and

TOO YOUNG OR TOO OLD TO RUN?

Buhari just signed the ‘Not too young to run’ bill and everyone is happy. Some are saying, it will push out the old politicians that have failed the country and so on.

Nigerians and sentiments! Next, they’d pick a candidate that is twenty-five or thirty and sing; She is so humble and from a poor background. She started a charity organization at twenty, fed the hungry and sent poor children to school. Look, she has even been sent to US twice under the Obama

ARE YOU GUILTY OF THIS?

I was reading a Joyce Meyer book titled ‘THE SECRET TO TRUE HAPPINESS’ and something she said  resonated deeply within me and so I decided to share.

“Where personal interactions are concerned, the prevailing message of our day seems to go something like this:
“ If you suit me perfectly; if you never make mistakes; If you always treat me right; if you do everything just the way I want you to, then I will applaud you and receive you into my life. I will like you, love you and accept you. But if you make mistakes, even if I let you stay in my life, the very least I will do is let you know you made a mistake, because I certainly wouldn’t want you to think you’re getting away with anything. I cannot let anything slide without giving you a warning or, at the very least, a little dose of rejection because if I let anything slide you might think you can just do it again and again”.
The problem with the attitude I just described is it’s

THE MIND READERS CLUB

You might often hear people in relationships say,

‘How could he get me this perfume? He is my boyfriend. He should know what I like.’
‘Why would she make me pasta, she should know better?’
‘I don’t think he loves me. If he does, why doesn’t he know what I like?’
‘She doesn’t know my favourite colour. I know all the things she likes.’
‘He doesn’t know what to get me for my birthday. He wants me to tell him what to buy for me. He is my man, he should know.’
‘I drink coffee but she got me tea.’
‘She couldn’t tell I was not happy.’
‘He should know I just want to be held.’
‘Couldn’t he tell I had a bad day at work?’
‘She should know how I feel.’

It goes on and on and on. In most relationships, we have the talker and we have the listener. One partner keeps
